Everybody Knows
(with apologies to Leonard Cohen)
Everybody knows that inside every human is an ongoing war between emotion and logic.
Everybody knows that neither side of that war is completely wrong or right.
Everybody knows that no one stays the same.
Everybody knows that change is hard.
Everybody knows that there is strength in numbers.
Everybody knows that stupidity spreads faster in a crowd.
Everybody knows that not everyone can win.
Everybody knows that they don’t want to be the one to lose.
Everybody knows someone they want to be more like.
Everybody knows someone they fear becoming.
Everybody knows that someone else has something you want.
Everybody knows that someone wishes they had something you have.
Everybody knows that life is short.
Everybody knows that life is long.
Everybody knows what it is they fear to lose.
Everybody knows that one day it will be gone.
Everybody knows what feels right.
Everybody knows what feels wrong.
Everybody knows that what feels right to them feels wrong to someone else.
Everybody knows that what feels wrong to them feels right to someone else.
Everybody knows what makes sense.
Everybody knows that what makes sense isn’t always what makes you happy.
Everybody knows that no one is perfect.
Everybody knows that imperfections break hearts.
Everybody knows that they don’t want their heart broken.
Everybody knows that it will be.
Everybody knows that humans are animals.
Everybody knows that we want to be more.
Everybody knows how much it hurts to be alive.
Everybody knows that they don’t want to die.
